Selective Laser Melting (SLM) technology was first proposed by the German Froounholfer Research Institute in 1995, and its working principle is similar to SLS.

SLM technology is a technology in which metal powder is completely melted and solidified by cooling under the heat of a laser beam. In order to completely melt the metal powder, the laser energy density is required to exceed 106W/Cm2. Under the action of high laser energy density, the metal powder is completely melted, and can be welded with solid metal metallurgy after cooling. SLM technology is a rapid prototyping technology that accumulates three-dimensional entities through this process.
